Terms of Service

After the Search
Last updated: September 27, 2026

Welcome to After the Search, an independent publication exploring how search, artificial intelligence and digital discovery are evolving.

These Terms of Service (”Terms”) explain the conditions under which you may access, read, subscribe to, share or otherwise interact with our publication.

By using After the Search, you agree to these Terms, subject to your rights under applicable law. If you do not agree, please discontinue using the publication.

1. About After the Search

After the Search is an independent publication founded and operated by Sudipto.

We publish original perspectives, research, technical analysis, experiments, commentary and educational content concerning search engines, artificial intelligence, digital discovery, content marketing and related subjects.

Our objective is to investigate emerging technologies and industry developments, examine available evidence, question established assumptions and contribute informed perspectives to the broader conversation.

Our content is intended for general informational and educational purposes.

2. Our relationship with Substack

After the Search is hosted on Substack, a third-party publishing and subscription platform.

Your use of the Substack platform is also subject to Substack’s own Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and other applicable platform policies.

Our Terms govern your relationship with After the Search as a publication. They do not replace, override or modify Substack’s separate terms.

Substack independently manages certain aspects of its platform, including accounts, subscription infrastructure, technical functionality and payment processing.

We are not responsible for Substack’s independent policies or operations.

3. Editorial independence

Our editorial work reflects our own research, professional experience, analysis, interpretations and opinions.

We retain editorial control over the topics we investigate, the conclusions we publish and the perspectives we express.

Our articles may discuss particular companies, platforms, technologies or industry practices. References to those entities do not necessarily constitute endorsements, commercial partnerships or recommendations.

We may occasionally collaborate with industry professionals, researchers or commercial organizations.

If we publish sponsored content or receive compensation that materially influences how particular products or services are presented, we will provide appropriate disclosure.

We aim to distinguish editorial analysis from commercial content and remain transparent about relevant conflicts of interest.

4. Accuracy, research and editorial updates

We aim to publish accurate, thoughtful and evidence-based content.

However, search engines, AI systems, digital marketing practices and related technologies evolve rapidly. Information that was accurate when published may subsequently become outdated.

Research studies may also have methodological limitations, incomplete datasets or findings that apply only to specific circumstances.

Although we make reasonable efforts to evaluate important claims and reference relevant sources, we do not guarantee that every article is complete, error-free or suitable for every situation.

Our research findings and interpretations should be evaluated alongside the underlying sources, methodologies and relevant circumstances.

We may correct, clarify, revise, expand or remove previously published material at our editorial discretion.

Where appropriate, we may add editorial notes or disclose substantive corrections.

Readers who identify potential errors are encouraged to contact us.

5. Use of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is both a subject of our coverage and a technology we may use within our editorial workflow.

Some articles or sections may have been drafted, rewritten, edited, summarized, proofread or otherwise refined with assistance from AI tools.

We may also use AI to organize research, brainstorm ideas, analyze information or support other editorial activities.

We aim to maintain human editorial oversight and take responsibility for the content published under our name.

The use of AI assistance does not guarantee accuracy or eliminate the possibility of errors.

Research-based claims should be understood within the context of the cited sources and the limitations of the available evidence.

We may disclose AI assistance within individual articles when relevant to their methodology, subject matter or production.

6. Intellectual property and permitted use

Unless otherwise indicated, the original articles, essays, research, frameworks, illustrations, graphics, publication branding and other original materials published by After the Search belong to the publication or their respective rights holders.

They are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

You are welcome to read our content, share links to our articles and quote reasonable excerpts with appropriate attribution, subject to applicable copyright exceptions and other legal rights.

You may not reproduce substantial portions of our original content, republish complete articles, commercially redistribute our research or misrepresent our work as your own without obtaining permission, unless applicable law permits that use.

You may not remove or misrepresent copyright notices, authorship information or source attribution.

Any third-party materials referenced or reproduced in our articles remain subject to the intellectual property rights of their respective owners.

For permission requests, please contact us.

7. Automated access and AI-related reuse

We recognize that automated systems, search engines and AI technologies play an important role in online discovery.

However, making our content publicly accessible does not automatically grant unrestricted permission to reproduce, redistribute, commercially republish or incorporate substantial portions of our original work into competing commercial content products.

Any automated access to the publication must comply with applicable laws, Substack’s policies and any applicable technical access restrictions.

We reserve the right to challenge unauthorized reproduction or commercial exploitation of our original work, subject to applicable law and any permissions we have granted.

Nothing in these Terms restricts uses that are lawfully permitted without our authorization, including applicable copyright exceptions.

Specific permissions for automated access, indexing or AI-related reuse may be established separately.

8. Subscriptions and communications

Readers may subscribe to After the Search to receive articles, newsletters and publication updates.

Free subscriptions do not require payment.

If we introduce paid subscriptions, the available plans, pricing and included benefits will be displayed before purchase.

By subscribing, you agree to receive the communications associated with your selected subscription.

You can unsubscribe from our newsletters through the unsubscribe link included in our emails or manage your subscription through Substack.

Certain communications relating to account management, payments or platform operations may be handled independently by Substack.

We may change our publication schedule, introduce new content formats or modify subscription offerings over time.

While we aim to publish consistently, we do not guarantee a specific publishing frequency unless expressly included in a paid subscription offering.

9. Paid subscriptions, cancellations and refunds

If paid subscriptions become available, their prices and benefits will be communicated through the relevant subscription page.

Subscription payments and recurring billing will be processed through Substack and its authorized payment providers.

Readers can manage or cancel their subscriptions using the applicable Substack account controls.

Unless otherwise stated during purchase, cancellation generally prevents future renewal charges while allowing access through the current paid subscription period.

Any applicable refund requests will be reviewed in accordance with our published refund terms, Substack’s applicable policies and relevant consumer-protection laws.

We will provide additional information about paid subscription terms before introducing paid membership options.

10. Research reports, digital products and events

We may offer research reports, downloadable resources, educational materials, workshops, events or other products and services.

Such offerings may be free or paid.

Where applicable, additional terms covering pricing, access, participation, refunds, cancellations, intellectual property or permitted use may apply.

These additional terms will be made available before purchase or registration.

Unless explicitly stated, purchasing a report, attending an event or participating in a workshop does not create an ongoing advisory or consulting relationship.

We may modify or discontinue future offerings, subject to applicable contractual obligations and consumer rights.

11. Reader participation and community conduct

We welcome thoughtful discussion, constructive disagreement and informed debate.

Readers may be able to participate through comments, replies, messages, surveys or other interactive features provided by Substack or additional services.

When participating, you agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten, intimidate or deliberately abuse other participants.

  • Publish unlawful, defamatory or intentionally misleading material.

  • Share personal or confidential information without appropriate authorization.

  • Infringe the intellectual property or privacy rights of others.

  • Distribute spam, malicious links or unauthorized commercial promotions.

  • Attempt to compromise the security or operation of the publication or its supporting services.

We reserve the right to moderate discussions, remove inappropriate contributions or restrict participation when reasonably necessary.

Substack may independently moderate content or enforce its own community guidelines.

We are not responsible for every statement, opinion or contribution made by readers or other third parties.

12. Reader contributions and submissions

If you voluntarily submit comments, feedback, ideas or other materials, you retain any intellectual property rights you hold in your original contributions.

By posting contributions publicly through our publication, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, reproduce and distribute those contributions as reasonably necessary to operate the publication, facilitate discussion and promote the relevant conversation, subject to applicable law and platform functionality.

Private correspondence, unpublished research submissions and identifiable survey responses will not automatically be treated as public contributions.

Where appropriate, we will request additional permission before publicly attributing, reproducing or commercially using private submissions.

You confirm that you have the necessary rights to share the material you submit.

13. No professional or financial advice

Our content is published for general information, education and discussion.

Articles may explore business strategy, digital marketing, emerging technologies, investments or other topics with commercial implications.

However, our publications should not be interpreted as personalized legal, financial, investment, tax or other regulated professional advice.

Readers are responsible for evaluating how general information applies to their own circumstances.

Before making significant business, legal or financial decisions, you should consult appropriately qualified professionals where necessary.

We do not guarantee that following any strategy, framework, experiment or recommendation discussed in our publication will produce specific results.

14. External links and third-party services

Our articles may link to academic research, technology platforms, external publications, commercial products or other third-party resources.

These links are provided for reference, context or convenience.

Unless expressly stated, linking to a website or discussing a third-party product does not constitute an endorsement or guarantee.

We do not control external websites or their availability, accuracy, security or privacy practices.

Your interactions with external services are governed by their respective terms and policies.

15. Privacy and data protection

We collect and use information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable data-protection laws.

Our Privacy Policy explains how subscriber information, website analytics data and other information may be processed.

We may use Google Analytics and other analytics technologies to understand readership and improve the publication.

We will never sell our subscriber lists or subscriber information.

Please review our Privacy Policy for further details about information collection, analytics, third-party services and your privacy choices.

16. Availability and changes to the publication

We aim to maintain access to After the Search and its published content.

However, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability.

Access may occasionally be affected by technical issues, maintenance, platform outages or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

We may introduce new features, change the publication’s structure, update its editorial direction or discontinue particular services.

Where paid services are affected, we will respect applicable contractual obligations and consumer rights.

17. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, After the Search and its publisher are not responsible for losses arising solely from readers’ reliance on general editorial information, interruptions caused by third-party platforms or decisions made without considering the reader’s particular circumstances.

Our content is provided for general informational and educational purposes, without a guarantee of specific outcomes.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable statutory consumer rights.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the publication evolves, our offerings change or applicable legal requirements develop.

The latest version will be made available on this page with an updated revision date.

Where legally required, we will provide additional notice or obtain appropriate agreement before material changes take effect.

Changes will not retroactively eliminate rights that readers have already acquired under applicable law or an existing purchase agreement.

19. Applicable law and disputes

These Terms will be interpreted in accordance with the laws applicable to the publication and the relevant transaction, subject to mandatory consumer-protection laws and other non-excludable legal rights.

We encourage readers to contact us first if they have a question or dispute concerning the publication.

Where an issue relates to Substack’s platform, billing infrastructure or independent services, readers may also need to contact Substack directly.

Nothing in these Terms restricts your right to seek remedies or use dispute-resolution procedures available under applicable law.
